Yes, professional whitening done in clinic is safe and closely monitored. Before we begin, we'll assess your teeth for any existing sensitivity or cavities that should be treated first. Many patients with mild sensitivity do fine with whitening. We may recommend a lower concentration gel or a desensitising treatment beforehand. Over-the-counter whitening strips, on the other hand, are not monitored and can cause more sensitivity with less predictable results.

It depends entirely on which treatments are involved. A whitening-only makeover is done in a single appointment. Adding veneers typically takes 2–3 visits over a few weeks. Whitening works by chemically lightening the natural colour of your tooth enamel, it's effective on extrinsic stains (coffee, tea, food) and some intrinsic discolouration. Veneers are thin ceramic shells placed over the front surface of a tooth, they can change both the colour and the shape of a tooth, and are permanent. If you have staining that doesn't respond to whitening (e.g. from tetracycline antibiotics or fluorosis), veneers may be a better option. We'll advise you on which is appropriate during your consultation.

With good maintenance, professional whitening results typically last 6–12 months before a top-up may be desired. Results vary depending on diet, smoking, and oral hygiene habits. Avoiding dark drinks (coffee, red wine, tea) in the first 48 hours after treatment helps lock in the results. We'll give you aftercare advice to help your results last as long as possible.
